Artist: Roy Goodman

Roy Goodman is a leading conductor in the period instrument movement, but has a repertoire that extends well into the current era.
He began his musical life as a chorister at King's College, Cambridge, where he studied violin and organ. As such, he was the treble soloist in a famous recording of Allegri's Miserere conducted by David Willcocks. His higher musical education was at the Royal College of Music in London. He became interested in historical performance practice.
After graduation, he debuted in 1974 as a conductor with a repertory including symphonies of Sibelius and Shostakovich. In 1975 he formed The Brandenburg Consort, and continued to direct it regularly until 2001. As this was not a full time professional job, he made his living primarily as a freelance violinist and as a teacher.
In 1986 he became principal conductor of the period instrument orchestra, the Hanover Band.
