Uptown Soul is an outgrowth of uptown blues. Like its predecessor, it has heavier production than its grittier Southern counterparts, complete with string sections, backing vocalists, and more sophisticated harmonies and chord progressions. It sounds more polished than its peers, with slicker production and smooth, crooning vocalists.
