Genre: Impressionist
Impressionism is rarely used to classify music, as the term arose from analyses of the plastic arts. However, it is used quite specifically to categorize the music of Claude Debussy between 1890 and 1910 though he himself objected to the term. It can also be applied to some of the works of his predecessors (Chopin and Liszt), as well as his contemporaries (Wagner, Mahler, and Strauss), but primarily to the music of only one of his antecedents, Bela Bartok.
