Glitter is the big, dumb, silly side of British glam rock. Glam did produce more than its fair share of art-rockers (David Bowie, Roxy Music, Brian Eno), but glitter drew its inspiration chiefly from the instant catchiness, stomping beat, and outrageous theatrics of T. Rex. Glitter made the hooks even bigger and simpler, the lyrics even dumber fun, and was thus able to last for a time on the British pop charts even when, as a whole, the glam movement's heyday began to fade.
