The jive talkers and scat singers of jazz are back in the new crate Vocalese. When singers started to imitate the sound of bebop saxophone solos, the result was famous tunes like "Moody's Mood For Love" by King Pleasure and Annie Ross (a vocal take on James Moody's version of "I'm In the

Back in the late 90s, a new style bubbled up that mixed New Wave with early electro beats from the 80s. Busting out the vintage keyboards and drum machines, acts like Peaches and Fischerspooner soon gained the "Electroclash" moniker for their style. BlueBeat's alteredegoes has a new DJ Crate with some of the best in the new electro, Electro-Pop Wave.

One prolific DJ Crate-maker here at BlueBeat has a new playlist perfect for your holiday weekend. Acoustic Royale Cafe from LadyElaine covers a lot of different genres, but all with a mellow singer-songwriter vibe. Indie rockers like Jenny Lewis and her new album Acid Tongue rub shoulders with local California favorite Jackie Greene; jazz bassist Charlie Haden plays the old-timey songs of his childhood on his new CD Family And Friends: Rambling Boy (featuring guests Ricky Skaggs and Pat Metheny); and the modern folk of Canada's The Duhks and the new Fast Paced World will warm the soul. If that's not enough, the good Lady has more Crates- try her newest, The Americana SongBook for more acoustic goodness, traditional to contemporary.

Here are a couple of big news items for all you Beatlemaniacs! Sir Paul McCartney has confirmed the existence of a long-rumored "lost" unreleased track by the Fab Four. A 14-minute experimental recording, played only once for an artshow audience in 1967, could see the light of day (with the consent of Ringo and the widows of John and George).
Not so much a "song" as an avant-garde piece, the track has remained mythical among collectors (even inspiring some fakes on the internet). The Beatles were known for incorporating elements of modern composition within the format of a pop song, but here they're captured at their most "far out". ...(read more)

Jungle and Drum & Bass were big styles that emerged in the 90's, but despite crossover records by acts like Goldie and Roni Size, there were no big pop songs to spread the popularity of the complex, sped-up beats that characterize the sound.

The turn of this century has seen the emergence of several new developments in ...(read more)
