Devil's Triangle--Christmas, 1865 12/24/07
I was holed up in a dismal shanty in the Triangle, drinking whiskey,
feeling mighty lowdown. Had lost my millions in a silver stock swindle, my girl, Ruby Starlight, to a murderous cop. The city was in ruins after the Frisco quake and my words had run dry.
I loaded my Colt and brought the barrel to my head. As I squeezed the
trigger, I heard, outside, a colored minstrel cry a holler he brought from
the Delta. I threw down the Colt, picked up my guitar, took a swig and
joined him in the mayhem.
