Albums in Modern Jam Bands

Description

Following in the footsteps of the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band, bands like Phish and Widespread Panic built huge followings in the early 1990s by performing concerts featuring unique set lists and extended, improvised instrumental jams. While some modern jam bands like Blues Traveler and the Dave Matthews Band scored pop hits, these bands were more acclaimed for their performances and live recordings than their studio efforts. Modern jam bands are a diverse bunch, offering everything from the groove-based jazz explorations of Medeski, Martin and Wood to the progressive bluegrass of the String Cheese Incident to the pop-inspired boogie of the Spin Doctors.
