Albums in Modern Reggae

Description

Although several of reggae's biggest names like Dennis Brown and Augustus Pablo died in 1999, reggae remains one of the most popular international styles of music. Dancehall currently dominates Jamaica's music scene, but reggae still boasts a few popular heavy hitters like Ziggy Marley. Roots reggae artists like Aswad, Burning Spear, Israel Vibration and Steel Pulse and contemporary reggae bands like Third World may not sell as many records as they used to, but they remain strong concert draws. Younger artists like Buju Banton, Bushman and Luciano have broadened reggae's audience by mixing roots reggae sounds, production and messages with upbeat dancehall rhythms. Reggae's future burns brightly thanks to contemporary reggae artists Morgan Heritage and up-and-comer Ras Abijah.
