Albums in Modern Rock
Description
In the mid 1990s a new type of guitar-driven rock band that toned down the fury of grunge while embracing similar '70s-inspired classic rock songwriting sensibilities rose in popularity. Matchbox Twenty, Collective Soul, Blind Melon, Live and Creed enjoyed considerable commercial success, attracting younger fans who sought a fresh sound as well as older listeners who were put off by the aggressiveness of grunge and alternative rock. Although these bands sold millions of records and received constant airplay, superstar status eluded them because the media focused its attention on the more outrageous antics of shock rockers and hardcore rappers. Other popular modern rock bands include the Verve Pipe, Vertical Horizon and Train.
