Albums in Original Punk Rock
Description
The first punk rock bands didn't sound that much different than US garage rock or UK pub rock, but the music was faster, louder, simpler and more aggressive. Punk emerged out of New York and London, where seminal bands like the Ramones, Sex Pistols, Dead Boys and the Damned rebelled against the increasing pretension of rock music with three-chord songs, tattered clothes and anti-establishment attitudes. Lyrics that lashed out against the government, celebrated drug use and promoted violence raised conservative eyebrows, but these sentiments were often tongue-in-cheek statements devised to upset the authorities. Although punk started out as an underground sensation, its effects were widespread and changed pop music and fashion forever.
