Description
The second wave of punk bands that emerged in the late 1970s pushed the envelope of rawness and rudeness further and further. Bands like Black Flag, Bad Religion and the Exploited pioneered a style known as hardcore punk that was designed to sound as angry, obnoxious and far from pop as possible. Hardcore lyrics expressed pissed-off attitudes about the government and society, exemplified by the brilliant social satire of San Francisco's Dead Kennedys. The Misfits developed a campy, creepy image that matched their fervor for low-budget horror movies, while Suicidal Tendencies built a following amongst skateboarders who idolized their fast, thrashy style and flippant attitude.
