Albums in Singing Cowboys

Description

Singing Cowboy films temporarily distracted Americans from the woes of the Great Depression and World War II during the 1930s and '40s. The highlights of these films were the songs performed by stars such as Gene Autry (pictured at left with “Champion”), Roy Rogers, the Sons of the Pioneers and Jimmy Wakely. While the films are mostly forgotten these days, songs like "Happy Trails," "Tumbling Tumble-weeds," "You are My Sunshine" and "Yellow Rose of Texas" live vividly in the memories of music fans all over the world. Even after Hollywood studios stopped making singing cowboy films, these stars went on to enjoy long and illustrious musical careers, carrying their considerable influence over to country music and western swing.
