Albums in Teen Idols And Girl Groups

Description

During the late 1950s, record company executives sought to duplicate Elvis Presley's phenomenal pop success through teen idols like Fabian, Bobby Darin and Frankie Avalon. Unlike their rebellious rock and roll predecessors, these clean-cut artists were considered safe and socially acceptable by the more conservative elements of society. Pop crooners like Paul Anka, Dion and Ricky Nelson soared to the top of the charts in the early 1960s as they won the hearts of teenage girls across America. Similar to these teen idols, early '60s girl groups were vehicles to perform hit songs instead of creative artists. For a brief period from 1962 to 1965, groups like the Supremes, Chiffons and Ronettes dominated America's Top 40 charts alongside teen idols.
