Albums in The 1st Music Video Generation
Description
MTV made its broadcast debut by airing the music video for the Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star." While video didn't necessarily kill the radio star, it replaced radio as the most influential medium for propelling an artist to the top of the charts. In its early days, MTV aired videos by a diverse group of performers, including post-punk and new wave bands, hard rock and metal acts, hip-hop and r&b groups and pop stars. Suddenly a performer's image became as important as the music. Video-savvy artists like Joan Jett, Duran Duran and Madonna became overnight sensations thanks to constant exposure on MTV.
