Description
Inspired by the folk-rock movement and the electrified Bakersfield Sound of country artists like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, many rock bands started experimenting with country music in the late 1960s. The Byrds spearheaded the development of country rock with the release of Sweetheart of the Rodeo in 1968. Artists like Neil Young and Bob Dylan, who recorded several influential country rock albums backed by Nashville A-Team studio musicians that featured guests like Johnny Cash, helped country rock gain momentum. In the 1970s bands like Dr. Hook, the Eagles, Firefall and Poco crafted a mellower style of country rock that enjoyed immense crossover success with country and pop fans.
