Albums in The Baroque Era

Description

Whereas the church dominated the development of music prior to 1600, during the Baroque Era musical innovation flourished in royal courts across Europe. Monarchs commissioned composers like Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frederic Handel and Antonio Vivaldi to write elaborate concertos for ceremonies and parties, notable examples of which include Bach's "Brandenburg Concertos," Handel's "Water Music" and Vivaldi's "Four Seasons." Although many composers were servants of the royal court, they were given considerable freedom to devise new styles of music. Many new instrumental forms like the sonata and vocal styles like opera progressed significantly during this era, and the work of Baroque composers established a cornerstone for the development of classical music that maintained influence throughout the 18th and 19th centuries.
