Albums in The Classical Soloist

Description

At the beginning of the Classical Era, the solo keyboard sonata started to develop and composers like C.P.E. Bach and Scarlatti composed numerous sonatas for the harpsichord and clavichord. With the introduction of the piano, which provided musicians a wider dynamic range, the piano sonata started to dominate solo instrumental music. The solo concerto remained popular as well, reaching new levels of sophistication at the very capable hands and imagination of Mozart. Many concertos written during the Classical Era featured cadenzas, a new innovation where the orchestra stopped playing and the soloist improvised freely, although today most cadenzas from works of this era are notated and performed without improvisation.
