Description
Emerging as a popular Latin American style during the late 90s, Reggaeton has its roots in the 80s. While El General was making Spanish language Jamaican-style Dancehall music in Panama, Vico C brewed DJ mixtapes combining Reggae and Hip-Hop in neighboring Puerto Rico. A new hybrid was born, with a distinctive beat; the song "Dem Bow" by Jamaican Shabba Ranks is often cited as the source of Reggaeton's signature rhythm. With the progression of the 90s came other influences from Dance music and Latin, fusing into Reggaeton as we know it today.
