Albums in Abstract Electronica

Description

While many artists saw electronic instruments as an easy means to craft tunes for the dance floor, a few visionaries explored the new, uncharted avenues of expression that technology offered. Aphex Twin (aka Richard James) challenged listeners with jarring shards of sound and constantly shifting rhythms, creating music that defied categorization. England's Warp Records signed Aphex Twin in the early '90s and became a home for similar-minded abstract electronic artists like Autechre, Plug (aka Luke Vibert) and Squarepusher. Other important artists include U-Ziq (aka Mike Paradinas) and Mouse on Mars.
