Albums in Alternative Fallout

Description

The meteoric rise of grunge paved the way in the mid 1990s for bands who embraced the attitude of alternative rock but specialized in a more upbeat, pop-oriented sound. Bands like No Doubt, Sublime and Smash Mouth emerged from the underground ska-punk scene, but their breakthrough hits were fun-filled party songs that bore little resemblance to that style. British bands like Radiohead and Oasis picked up the torch from Kurt Cobain for writing melodic, angst-ridden songs, but their guitars tended to jangle and swirl instead of enveloping listeners in walls of aggressive, growling distortion.
