Albums in Blues Revival
Description
Although rock and roll eclipsed the popularity of the blues during the mid 1950s, during the early '60s dozens of blues artists made an impressive comeback on the folk circuit and with appreciative audiences in Europe. A young and predominantly white audience of fans who were fascinated by the struggles of the civil rights movement flocked to shows by acoustic Delta blues artists like Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Son House, sometimes revitalizing careers that had been dormant since the '30s. The ragtime-influenced country blues of Reverend Gary Davis influenced many of the '60s biggest stars, including Bob Dylan and Donovan.
