Albums in Breakbeat

Description

Breakbeat music's roots stretch back to mid-1980s electro, but the style emerged as a distinct movement in the early '90s when UK acid house DJs became tired of repetitive four-on-the floor beats and started producing tunes based around sampled breakbeats lifted from hip-hop and classic funk records. In the mid '90s, UK artists like the Chemical Brothers and Freestylers created electronic interpretations of old school hip-hop while U.S. artists like Uberzone on the West Coast and DJ Icey in Miami combined electro sounds with funky beats. Today's leading breakbeat artist, including BT, Hybrid, Deepsky and Rennie Pilfrem, create an ambitious and densely orchestrated music.
