Albums in Contemporary Classical

Description

Although most modern classical composers started abandoning the rules of previous classical music eras in favor of experimentalism and the avant-garde during the last half of the 20th century, many composers today are leaning towards a more accessible, romantic-influenced style. Recent works by minimalist composers Terry Riley and Philip Glass favor predominantly acoustic instrumentation such as conventional orchestras, guitar ensembles and string quartets instead of the electronic instruments they relied upon more heavily during the 1970s and 1980s. Performers like the Kronos Quartet and Bang on a Can have expanded the audience for modern classical music by performing rock and jazz music in addition to works by contemporary composers.
