Albums in Dance-Pop

Description

Dance-pop is a catchy combination of R&B, disco, new wave and pop driven by tight drum machine rhythms, percolating synthesizers and funky guitar grooves that became popular in the early 1980s. The vocalist was the center of attention, and fans imitated the dance moves and fashions that these stars flaunted on MTV. The biggest stars were performers like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince and George Michael. In the late '80s and early '90s producers capitalized on dance-pop's popularity by putting together boy bands and girl groups like New Kids on the Block, Exposé and TLC and managing the careers of solo artists like Paula Abdul and Debbie Gibson.
