Albums in Glam Rock

Description

Glam rock is as memorable for introducing cross-dressing, gender-bender fashion to teenagers as it is for its campy, satirical music. While many glam rock artists like Queen, David Bowie, Mott the Hoople and Roxy Music were as musically and lyrically ambitious as their progressive rock brethren, they tended to write short, catchy songs aimed at the pop charts. Bands like T. Rex, Sweet and Slade combined smart, melodic vocals with the crunch of heavy metal guitars, setting the foundation for '80s hair metal. Generally acknowledged as a British phenomenon, many glam rock bands enjoyed immense popularity in the United States during the 1970s, and American artists like Lou Reed and the New York Dolls adopted the genre's androgynous look and flamboyant attitude.
