Bishop Shakur (born 1974), better known by his stage name AP.9, is an American rapper, best known for his solo-music and his affiliation with Bay Area-based hip hop group Mob Figaz. Raised in Oakland, California, AP.9 had a rough life growing up, which inspires much of his musical lyrics. In 2002, he was shot 12 times, which subsequently put him into a coma for a month-and-a-half. He first received widespread recognition in 1999 for the Mob Figaz album C-Bo's Mob Figaz, which went Gold and reached #63 on Billboards Top R&B Albums chart. Since then, he released several albums as a member of Mob Figaz, as well as over 23 solo albums and numerous other collaboration albums.
