The blues experienced a massive resurgence in popularity in the 1960s when Europeans and American folk music fans discovered the work of many overlooked blues artists. While many fans focused on the work of deceased prewar musicians like Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton, a larger audience flocked to shows by living American artists like John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins, Mississippi John Hurt, Muddy Waters and T-Bone Walker. These artists' performances and records influenced a new group of younger musicians who went on to form bands like the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, the Yardbirds and Led Zeppelin.
