Ska reached new heights of popularity in the mid '90s as third wave ska revival bands like No Doubt and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones scored pop hits. But as ska gained appeal with new fans, many bands rebeled against the pop-influenced sounds of these artists and increasingly embraced the energy and attitude of punk. Many of today's leading ska bands draw equal influence from punk rock, and bands like Goldfinger, Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish and Buck-O-Nine have built dedicated cult followings consisting of punk and ska fans alike. The re-emergence of ska during the mid '90s influenced the Specials to regroup and record several albums, albeit without key member Jerry Dammers.
